3…2..1…HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

new_year.gifHappy New Year everyone! I figured that there had to be at least a couple of people who don’t have anywhere to be on New Year’s Eve this year and I thought I’d enlighten you. Anyway, the big party to close out the year will be at the Hilton. The Professionals Guild is holding their biggest singles party of the year at the hotel. Tickets are only $50.00 for members. However, unlike the Halloween party, tickets can now only be purchased over the phone at 916-786-5858. If you’re not a member, the rate is $65.00 if you purchase them by tomorow at 6:00PM. These tickets can be purchased online and picked up at the Will Call Station. Tickets are also available at the hotel front desk for the same price before the party starts. The party will go from 8:30PM to 1:00AM.

Innersoul and The Groove Thang will be playing simultaneously in different rooms. A DJ will be playing different music in a third room and the fourth ballroom at the Hilton will be transformed into a mini-Casino. All guests will receive two free drink tickets as well. In addition, there will be champagne fountains and a big balloon drop at midnight. The dres code is semi-formal. Casual dress will not be allowed and a coat and tie are preferred.

Since everyone will likely be drinking, the hotel is offering a special room rate for partygoers. Rates begin at $139 and go to $189 depending on the type of package and room you want to get. If you are reserving your room online, make sure to enter the promotional code ANY when prompted. Be safe and have a very Merry New Year’s Eve!!!

Halloween Party for Singles

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

The Professionals Guild is hosting a huge Halloween party for singles at the Doubletree Hotel located at 2001 Point West Way. The party is on Friday Octber 26th from 8:00PM to midnight. Complimentary light appetizers will be served from 8:00PM to 9:00PM.

They expect hundreds of local singles to show up for one of the biggest Halloween bashes in Sacramento. The dress code is either a Halloween costume or dressy cocktail attire. They even offer a discount for people who show up in a costume. Tickets are $12.00 if you are wearing a costume and $25.00 if you are not. They must be paid for in cash at the door. It looks to be a good opportunity for dancing and mingling. In any case, it is definitely one of only a hadnful of adult-oriented Halloween activities in Sacramento. Most of them are geared towards families with young children–like the world’s largest corn maze in Dixon. Be sure to take advantage of the opportunity as there won’t be many more of them this season.

If you’re as hopeless as I am at dating, then you also might want to check out some tips before you head out for your big night out on the town. Sandy at Dating Outlook always has some really wonderful ideas on her site. She also offers great advice and a chance to commiserate with other singles on all of the misery and stress that accompanies the dating scene. Have a great time and remember to play safe!

Joe’s Crab Shack

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

We went to Joe’s Crab Shack for my friend’s 21st birthday and it was absolutely fabulous. Their menu has a wide variety of choices–even for people who don’t like seafood–but the different crab dishes were probably the best. They had everything “crab” that you could possibly imagine–crab cakes, crab dip, and of course king crab. They also had an extremely wide array of alcoholic beverages to choose from–which was very handy for a 21st birthday party. They have these things called Trash Cans which are basically designed to get you trashed. My friend had one–the Beach Bum–that was kind of like a tropical Long Island. It was so strong you really couldn’t even taste anything but the alcohol. They come in these little collectible trash cans, which I thought was a pretty neat touch. My other roomie had two Pina Coladas which were very, very good. They even had these cute little decorations on the top of them. As for me, I spent the night drinking Lynchburg Lemonades that were completely life changing!

Anyway, we had a really good time. The service was really good, the people were a lot of fun, and the restaurant is right on the river–giving it the most amazing views at sunset! Be forewarned, it is NOT a romantic kind of place…it’s more geared towards big groups, parties, and such. It is VERY loud and VERY busy. Also, since it is busy, you will definitely need to make reservations. It is pretty impossible to get a table without them–even to just sit at the bar! Even with reservations, it still took us 45 minutes to get a table…definitely NOT the kind of place to go if you are in a hurry. If you’re willing to wait–or are going to be walking around Old Sacramento anyway–then it is completely worth the wait. It is located at 1210 Front Street next to the Boat Rentals stand and across from the parking garage. To make reservations, call 916-553-4249.

Pine Cove Tavern

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Today is my friend Megan’s 21st birthday. She wanted to buy her first *ahem* legal drink at midnight so we decided to take her out to one of the countless bars here in Sacramento. We went through a ton of different ones and then stumbled across the Pine Cove on the corner of 29th and E Streets. Everything about it was just very very clever. For instance, the address is 502 29th Street–502 just happens to also be the drunk driving violation number. In fact, they are so against drunk driving that they offer free drinks (non-alcoholic of course) to designated drivers. The bar itself was very quaint and cute with little tables for couples to share (or, for gorups like ours to shove together into larger seating arrangements!). They have a hillarious DJ who can also sing really well and the rest of the staff is likewise worthwhile. They also have karaoke on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Their song book was the fattest one that I have ever seen in my life. They literally have something for everyone–Megan even ended up singing “Part of Your World” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid! Granted, that WAS after drinking seven Long Islands…but still…

Anyway, the atmosphere is great, the people are fabulous, and they have free popcorn and no cover charge. What more could you ask for? hehehe…

About Sacramento, CA

When Sacramento was founded in 1849, I don't think anyone bothered to notice that it means "Holy Sacrament" in Spanish. After all, it wasn't a very apt name for a lively, growing mining town where gambling and saloons where the status quo. Perhaps to gain a modicum of respect, they paid California $1 million in 1854 in order to become the State Capitol. In the years since, it has evolved from a little mining town into a bustling city full of people from every culture and every walk of life. In addition, our status as the most ethically diverse city in America also means that we have something for everyone to do. There are numerous ethnic restaurants, tons of museums, and countess festivals in historic Old Sacramento that make the city an excellent place to visit and an even better place to live...
