Continental Buffet Inc.

by

While we were driving up and down Howe Ave trying to find somewhere to eat last night we came across a large buffet restaurant called Continental Buffet Inc. My roomies and I are all really fond of buffets so we figured we’d try it out–which sadly was pretty much a big mistake. Their food wasn’t raelly all that good to begin with. I know that at buffets it’s normal for some of the food to kind of suck. However, most of theirs did! A lot of their dishes were empty–or may as well have been. The chow mein was greasy, the fried rice was flavorless, and the orange chicken was mushy. In addition, a lot of the food had been allowed to remain out for way too long. The dim sum probably would have been good if it hadn’t been allowed to stay out for so long. Everything was just really stale and disappointing. To top that off, the service was terrible. The waitress never refilled our drinks and only took away our used plates once. The worst part though was the price…$11.99 per person. We wouldn’t have minded paying it had the food been good, but with it as it was it was like the proverbial icing. Anyway, if you want to go to a GOOD buffet, you should check out Taste of China at 1000 Howe Ave instead.

I am so sick of buffets thinking they can offer sub standard food. Just because it is all you can eat does not mean we want to eat crap food. If we wanted crappy food we could have attempted to make our own chinese food! Out here we have several chinese restaurants all down Broadway. All of which suck! They are terrible. And there is one chinese buffet which is particularly disgusting. I am so sick and tired of all of that. I am a huge fan of buffets. Because I get variety at a good price. Plus I’m pregnant and lets face it I can pack some plates down. I even like hometown buffet which I know I will be booed for that one but hey I do. So if I’m saying somewhere has crappy food I really mean it. I’m just so done with crappy restaurants! We don’t pay you to make some crap we could have made in our own kitchen we want a culinary experience and if that means paying a little mroe I’m all for it. But if it comes down to it I’ll take hometown buffet food over most buffets.

EXACTLY!!!!!! I was so so mad. I wanted to tell the lady that buffets are supposed to be all you can eat–not all you can stomach. It was just so frustrating. They made me more mad too–I forgot this earlier–because the place LOOKS really elegant. It is deceptive to passers by…and their prices aren’t posted anywhere either. Thus, helpless customers like us just go and pay too much for nothing without even knowing it or expecting it. It’s funny too because the other restaurant I mentioned looks like a cheesy dump dive and it actually (usually) has really good food. I guess it just goes to show that you can’t judge a book by its cover ;)

Have you tried The White Swan? (I think ‘ve gotten the name right) They do mongolian BBQ on one side, and Chinese on the other. Stick with the Mongolian BBQ. It was divine.

Mind you, this info. is a couple of years old…

Seriously some of these places drive me insane out here…apparently you guys have the same problem. I’m sorry but if you try to offer me some crappy food again I’m seriously gonna go nuts. I honestly think next time I encounter one of these places I’m gonna have to complain. I don’t like confrontation but I’ll make an exception because it is getting out of hand. BTW Elisa Mongolian BBQs are awesome if you are ever out in San Diego try Shanghai I wrote a blog about it sometime last month not sure exactly when but yeah they are freakin awesome!

Elisa, White Swan always smells really good but it just looks like such a dump. Seriously, some of the windows are even boarded up!!! I’ll totally try it though now that I have a reccomendation ;) I guess in Sac you just have to look for the grungy type hole-in-the-wall places to get something good to eat!
Vicki, we are so going there next time I’m in San Diego. I LOVE Mongolian BBQ!!!!

  6. Elisa Says:

Well, I used to hate mongolian BBQ, but they changed my mind. It may have changed in the few years since I last went, so be warned.

  7. Elisa Says:

Victoria, count me in for Mongolian BBQ next time I’m down in San Diego.

That rss feature on your site here is amazing, you should tell people about it in your upcoming post. I haven’t noted it a first, now I’m using it each morning to check on any updates. I’m on a rattling slow dial-up link in Germany and it’s quite frustrating to sit there and wait for such a long time ’til the page loads… but hey, I just found your rss page and added it to the Google Reader and there you are… I’m always up-to-date! Well pal, keep up the good work and make that rss button a little bigger so that other people can enjoy that as well :-P

About Sacramento, CA

When Sacramento was founded in 1849, I don't think anyone bothered to notice that it means "Holy Sacrament" in Spanish. After all, it wasn't a very apt name for a lively, growing mining town where gambling and saloons where the status quo. Perhaps to gain a modicum of respect, they paid California $1 million in 1854 in order to become the State Capitol. In the years since, it has evolved from a little mining town into a bustling city full of people from every culture and every walk of life. In addition, our status as the most ethically diverse city in America also means that we have something for everyone to do. There are numerous ethnic restaurants, tons of museums, and countess festivals in historic Old Sacramento that make the city an excellent place to visit and an even better place to live...
